Lois Winter
Visual artist and ceramicist
Ceramics
I studied under Maureen Fleming and Kathy Glenday in Cape Town, as well as participated in Association of Potters of South Africa workshops. I had my own studio in Cape Town and Pretoria for 20 years. I exhibited at Regional and National exhibitions in South Africa, and had works accepted for the South African Ceramics Awards. I worked on a project combining ceramics and local ethnic wirework which provided work opportunities for disadvantaged persons. I sold widely through galleries and privately in South Africa. One of my greatest joys was teaching and sharing my love of ceramics with others.
Painting
I obtained my Bachelor of Arts from the Open University in London, and my Bachelor Visual Arts from the University of South Africa. I furthered my practical experience with Tom Bluhm in Vevey, Switzerland, and with Lindsay Simons in Paris, France.
I have taught art in schools and privately in South Africa, Switzerland, France, Turkey, Thailand, and the Philippines.
I have exhibited in small group exhibitions in all of the above countries, and in large group exhibitions in Thailand and China.
My latest exhibition sold extensively in Sydney, Australia.
I have worked on projects for the Jane Goodall Foundation and the Rhino Foundation in South Africa, making and selling artworks for fund-raising events for these organisations.
